Hi everyone!

June is pride month and what better way to celebrate love and oneness in the world than books. I try to read diverse as much as possible. LGBT books are a great way to read about love and friendship and find out how it feels to sometimes be lonely.

Never ever apologize for who you love!

So here are my favorite LGBT books.

1. Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda – Becky Albertalli

Read this way back in 2015, did a re-read last month and loved it equally. Becky Albertali does LGBT like a pro! Her writing is fluid and breezy. This is a story of Simon, a high school boy who hasn’t come out and emails a fellow student. One day his email conversation is leaked and someone starts blackmailing him and how he faces the world and his fear of opening up.

The story talks about bullying, race, body shaming, and sexual diversity. It’s presented in a light and fluffy way and doesn’t get preachy at all. If you’re looking for a warm and happy LGBT story, this is for you.

2. The Inexplicable Logic of My Life – Benjamin Alire Saenz

Benjamin Alire Saenz is my new favorite author. I cannot describe how much I adore Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (his other book). But then this book happened and my love just grew exponentially.

It’s the story of Sal, who is adopted by a gay man and is welcomed in his Mexican American family; and Samantha – Sal’s best friend. Exploring and questioning their identity, they try to understand the logic of life. The story has all the elements that make a contemporary – relationship, emotions, life lessons, friendship, and love!

3. Perks of Being a Wallflower – Stephen Chbosky

This coming of age story is a favorite of many, and you have to read it to find out what the hype is all about. The story is about Charlie, who’s more of a wallflower and is learning the acts of blending in.

It is funny and emotional, is simple yet complex, and makes you think. It talks about sexuality and finding your identity! Even though it is a YA contemporary, it’s more mature and serious. Bonus points because the movie adaptation is absolutely fantastic.

4. I’ll Give You the Sun – Jandy Nelson

A poignant LGBT story about relationships, love, and loss, I’ll Give You the Sun will leave you teary eyed. This is a story of Jude and her twin brother Noah! They’re inseparable until something happens and then both aren’t talking to each other. It is told in a unique way – the first half is Noah’s perspective and other half is told by Jude.

A long due re-read awaits!!

5. History Is All You Left Me – Adam Silvera

To get all the #feels, you have to read something by Adam Silvera. My favorite is History is All You Left Me. This is a story of Griffin and his ex boyfriend Theo, who’s now dead. Griffin meets Theo’s current boyfriend, Jackson at his funeral and his world seems to turn upside down.

It’ll get you bawling, will break your heart, and then heal it magically. It talks about love, loss, and grief in such a beautiful way. You get an emotional rollercoaster – from cutesy mushy feels to heartbreak everything you need in a YA!

  • They Both Die At the End – Adam Silvera
  • Will Grayson, Will Grayson – John Green
  • Leah on the Off Beat – Becky Albertalli
  • If I Was Your Girl – Meredith Russo

Hope these recommendations encourage you to add a lot more diversity in your TBR pile. Let me know if you have a good LGBT book recommendation!

Until next time, Happy Reading!! And spread the LOVE….
