Blogtober cannot be complete if we don’t talk about books. So, here’s the first of the many book posts!

If you’re a keen follower of booktube or bookstagram, then you’d definitely understand what hyped books mean. They are blown out of proportion on social media, and everybody seems to be talking to about them. Creating this huge buzz increases the expectations, and then sometimes they come crashing down. But for some books, all the hype and buzz is so worth it.

Popular hyped books that were actually worthy of the hype.

Here are 5 books that deserve all the hype and love.

  1. The Book Thief – by Markus Zusak

This is a historical fiction set during World War II wherein Death narrates the story of Liesel, a young German girl. As she grows up in warn torn Germany, the book traces her journey of stealing books and understanding life. Be prepared to be an emotional wreck! The writing is amazing, the storytelling is phenomenal, and the way Death is taken as a primary character adds to the overall reading experience.

Love this one with all my heart!

2. Turtles all the Way Down – by John Green

For many John Green is a hit or miss author. Luckily for me, he’s been a hit for all the works I’ve read. Turtles all the way Down came in 2017 and was one of the most hyped books. With high expectations I started reading, and thankfully it met nearly all of them.

books that deserve all the hype
Turtles all the way Down has a special place in my heart and bookshelf.

It’s an own voices novel about John Green’s anxiety and OCD. The anxiety rep feels on point. I’ll say that I’m not the biggest fan of the plot, but the way it is narrated is superlative. The way characters talk to one another and the time they’re introspecting – it’s beautiful and so emotional.

3. The Hate U Give – by Angie Thomas

Whether you’re a reader or not, this is one book we all need to read. It is so relevant and deals with things that are happening in our world.

THUG is the story of Starr, a high school black girl. It talks about police brutality in USA and how in a police encounter a cop kills Starr’s best friend and she’s the only witness. It is powerful, eye opening, and so intense. They’re so many heavy topics – police brutality, racism, bullying, but all handled in such a sensitive and mature way. Deserved all the hype and much more….

4. Leah on the Offbeat – by Becky Albertalli

Moving on to some fun fluffy contemporary reading! This is a girl – girl romance and I couldn’t be happier. I read it recently after Supreme Court’s epic judgment about abolishing Section 377 and it was such a great time to read a diverse contemporary.

Leah on the Offbeat takes you back to the Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda world – exciting, enticing, and cute all at the same time. The book is full of diversity and queer love, so if you’re looking for a cutesy summer romance, this is a good pick. Also this one deserves all the hype for all the right reasons.

If you’re interested in more queer books – here’s my list of LGBT recommendations.

5. The Sun is also a Star – by Nicola Yoon

Last on this list of hyped books is The Sun also a Star. This is a story about a Jamaican girl, Natasha and a Korean American boy, Daniel and their not so usual love story. Natasha and her family are being deported the next, and Daniel is trying to prove himself to his family, and they both fall in love.

The Sun is Also a Star
Insta love at its best – both for the book and Romeoooo!

It is highly meet cute scenario, so if you’re someone who doesn’t like insta love then you might cringe at this. Told in a unique format spread over 24 hours, this one’s cute and heartwarming, and sure deserves all the hype.

If you’ve not read these, I highly recommend picking them up. They’ll not disappoint you. Also let me know if you’ve read a hyped book and it lived up to all your high expectations!

Bye. See you tomorrow….
